Our Favorite Fall Home Decor Ideas to Cozy Up Your Space

Cozy lovers, listen up! The leaves are showing signs of changing, and a subtle chill is creeping in. You know what that means: fall is officially here 🍂 And while nature is doing its magic outside, it’s about time you create a cozy haven indoors.

If you ask us, magic happens when your home aligns with the seasons. We especially love this in the context of fall, when comfort and warmth make their way into interiors. The chilly evenings outdoors are complemented by a cozy ambiance indoors—enhancing your overall experience of autumn tenfold.

If you’re ready to get your home in the spirit of fall, keep reading! We’re listing our favorite fall home decor ideas to embrace the cozy season 🧡

Add Foliage to the Front Door

We see leaves changing color and shedding on the streets. Extend this scene all the way to your front door. That is, sprinkle a few dried leaves on the stairs and hang a dried jasmine wreath on the door. If you’ve got an extra large front door, you can also double the wreath for a symmetrical picture. You can then proceed to add some moody pumpkins and lanterns (these dark finish ones are great for autumn).

If you like a minimalist approach, you can skip all the accessories and flank your door with potted plants—we especially love orange, dried hydrangeas in a vintage vase, which brings in the autumn vibe.

Incorporate Fall-Inspired Lighting

Price: $389

Shop: Homary

Lighting cozies up the interior, sure. But beyond that, you want to look for fixtures that mimic the vibe of fall. Case in point: the agate tree floor lamp featured above—looking quite like a tree with fall foliage. Except it doubles as a functional piece, too!

What we love about this floor lamp is that it’s subtly fall-inspired, so you can continue to use it throughout the rest of the year, too. (Also, here’s how to decorate with floor lamps).

Work in Velvet

Price: $1999

Shop: Homary

When it comes to fall fabrics, nothing feels quite as cozy as velvet. This sumptuous texture begs to be touched and enjoyed, making it a great option for a new couch in a fall tone. (The good part is, this piece can act as an accent one throughout the year—provided you switch up the accessories around it).

If you’re looking for smaller changes, think about seasonal throw pillows in velvet topping your existing sofa. Or perhaps an accent velvet chair (like this modern velvet accent chair by Her Nest) that can be tucked away after autumn is over.

Set the Scene with Scent

Price: $35

Scents have this magical way of hacking into our memories. That’s partially why fall fragrances can make us feel nostalgic and happy. You may remember baking pies or sipping cider when you were younger—and when you smell this scent again, you’re teleported back to that time in your head.

The scent featured above has a spicy fragrance. Something like a cup of hot buttered rum, with notes of ground ginger, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Yum!

Don’t Hesitate with Texture

Price: $83

Detail: Casa Gear

We’re going all cozy during fall. And you know what that means. Lots and lots of texture. Cushions and throws are a standard way to achieve this. If you’re looking for something more interesting, dress up your walls.

This can be with woven tapestries adding a touch of the Scandi style. It doesn’t always have to be soft, though. A statement metallic wall accent can do the job while adding glamour to the space, too. We especially love the piece above for its autumn hues—paired with a balance of white.

Consider Rustic Farmhouse Accents

Price: $159

You don’t have to live in the countryside to be able to enjoy the farmhouse style. You can use small touches to give your home a warm and rustic feel—perfect for fall decor. In fact, we’d go as far as to say fall and rustic go hand in hand.

The distressed wood console table above can factor in the farmhouse style to your foyer (it also happens to be one of our favorite entrance tables). Galvanized metal can make way into your decor through tabletop pieces. And another fun yet simple idea would be a wooden ladder draped with plaid throws.

Set a Fall Tablescape

As the winds get chillier and we begin spending more time indoors, we love to host loved ones more often. This sets the mood for the upcoming holiday season—and makes sure we stay connected with loved ones (even if it’s not under the summer sun).

And for this, we love an autumn-inspired tablescape! Lay down a textured or patterned tablecloth or runner. (You can also repurpose wardrobe essentials like a plaid blanket scarf). Top this with fall decor pieces, like these stunning ceramic gourds paired with silk velvet pumpkins for added texture. You can also switch out your salt and pepper dispensers with woodland birds (really). And don’t forget to use pumpkin paper napkins on your plates.

Create a Cozy Nook

Ever feel the urge to curl up with a book and cuppa cocoa when cozied up indoors? Been there, done that! And the best way to enjoy this is with a cozy reading nook 😊 All you’ll need is a comfy chair (you can use one you already have), a cozy blanket, and some good lighting. You can also add a small side table to hold your drink. And, there you have it, your very own cozy corner. Also—if space is at a premium, you can repurpose a window alcove by tossing in some plush cushions and a lamp.

Dress Up the Fireplace

Those spontaneous indoor s’more sessions call for a cozy fireplace. Oh, and also because it adds to the autumn vibe so beautifully 🔥 To make it the focal point, place some taper candles and a ceramic bowl holding fall foliage on the mantel.

For folks feeling extra festive… Add a pumpkin garland (this piece made from felt adds some extra texture). If you don’t have a working fireplace, you can still use a basket of logs on the hearth!

P.S—If you’re not looking forward to the seasonal scaries (read: scarce light as the sun goes down early), a quick tip is to sprinkle some mirrors across your home. These can brighten the space up—so it looks cozy, not cave-like 😉
